BLDG + Kevin T. Kelly Announce New Print

January 27, 2016

BLDG + Kevin T. Kelly announce new print release February 11.

BLDG welcomes Post-Pop artist Kevin T. Kelly for his debut print release on February 11 at 12 p.m. Staying true to his vibrant color palette and dedication to form, Kelly worked with master printmaker Jon Flannery to create the limited edition titled Exposed, an 11 color hand-pulled screen print.

The image for Exposed was originally designed for The Carnegie’s Carnivale d’Expose in 2005. Kelly remarks, “I was surprised to see how edgy and relevant this image has remained after ten years. It serves as commentary on the rise of surveillance and the brazen exhibitionists who refuse to be curtailed by the security theatre of Big Brother. I think of this work as my nod to anyone who decides to ‘moon’ the system.”

Along with these extremely limited screen prints, BLDG will showcase five original works for sale on the website. The prismacolor sketches complement the subject matter of the Exposed print and offer collectors an opportunity to acquire additional Kelly originals.

Hailing from Northern Kentucky, Kelly moved to New York City in 1988 to work as the studio manager for world famous Pop artist Tom Wesselmann. Although Wesselmann profoundly influenced his early work, since Kelly’s style has evolved into one that’s uniquely his own, where graphically reduced imagery omits extraneous details and optimizes the narrative impact of his compositions. The language, metaphors and stories he paints offer humorous commentary on the complexity of life, relationships and the times in which we live. The bold new direction Kelly took with his paintings, landed him the cover of critically acclaimed periodical New American Paintings in 2000 and 2003.

The collaboration between Jon Flannery and Kevin T. Kelly on the Exposed print, represents a new line of services BLDG is offering to fine artists. Remarking on where he sees this opportunity going, Flannery says, “We’ll go in a direction that touches all points of the print spectrum. There are so many creative ways to use print to communicate, so I’d definitely like to see the studio being challenged with new and different applications of design in print. I want to maintain that balance of mastery and exploration so our breadth of experience is always growing in new and unexpected ways.”
