Mellow Mushroom

Mural Painting

Born out of the free-wheelin’ hippie culture of the 70’s, Mellow Mushroom is known for their craveable pizza, easygoing atmosphere and funky decor. Each restaurant across the country tells its own story on the inside, and the now-open Hyde Park location is no exception.

We designed and installed two wheat paste murals themed around iconic people and places throughout Cincinnati’s history. The murals include icons such as Pete Rose, The Isley Brothers, Annie Oakley, King Records, Johnny “Guitar” Watson and Cincinnati Music Hall.

We also hand-painted imagery, including colorful mushrooms to play up the design’s trippy appeal. Taking influence from American graphic designer Milton Glaser, the illustrations combine bold, black line work with primary pop colors that dial up the psychedelic style.

The larger of the two murals wraps around the main and private dining areas at 30ft x 10ft. In addition to creating a fun and creative atmosphere in the dining area, it also serves as the backdrop for live music performances.
